Meet Lindsay of Hot Mama Health & Fitness

At Pimpernel & Plum, one of our favourite things to do is make new connections with other local and Canadian businesses. We recently connected with Lindsay Goulet of Hot Mama Health & Fitness. Here is bit about Lindsay and her business.

1) What made you and other Moms take the leap into the business of Hot Mama?

Hot Mama was born from my own passion for fitness and family. After I lost my job, I was failing at another company I had started and decided to run fitness classes for, honestly, just the joy of instructing. Group exercise lights me up like nothing else. So, I decided to offer classes where you could bring your babies, toddlers, kids, no age restriction. I knew it would be mass chaos, but with no other programs available to bring mobile children, I found my niche.

I called them Hot Mama classes and well, they exploded! After 2 years of working Hot Mama as its own fitness business, I decided to franchise the company. We had built this incredible community of like-minded Mamas, so I figured that type of support and community could be used in cities and towns around the world.

I believe most Franchise Owners join our Hot Mama family because they want to stay home with their kids, they want to help create a movement of family fitness, they want to build a community of incredible women where the live and they are seriously lit up by fitness and community building. Our owners are incredible women who work tirelessly to do good in their communities. They’re the most caring, silly, amazing and driven women I know.

2) What benefits do your clients get out of Hot Mama besides exercise?

Community. Hot Mama isn’t just fitness classes and programs. Don’t get me wrong, the root of our business is sweat and burpees, but we’re so much more than that. I always tell people Hot Mama is a community-based fitness business. We’re a safe place to go as you navigate your way through Motherhood. You’ll be supported by other women, you won’t be judged for Mothering the way you choose and you’ll set a great example of living an active, healthy life for your kiddos.

I also think there is safety and reassurance to our clients when they hear that the classes and programs offered through Hot Mama are designed by a PhD in Exercise Physiology. I work hard at developing new programs for women that are safe, effective, fun and account for the physical and physiological changes that occur when we become Mamas.

Most importantly, though, is that we also offer the love, inspiration and support you need whether you’re a new Mom or an experienced one. It’s nice to know you have a safe place to go to ask questions, commiserate, cheer, laugh and empower one another. Hot Mama is love. Hot Mama is support. Hot Mama is...workouts and wine!

3) What tips do you have for managing the work life balance?

I’m not entirely sure I trust the phrase work-life balance. My best tip is to do your best. Sometimes life will be more work-focused. Sometimes life will be more life-focused. The best you can do is the best you can do. Prioritize what is most important to you and focus on the top three. Know that those priorities change daily and give yourself the flexibility to accept that.

There is so much pressure these days: work full-time; be a Mom full-time; get everything done in a new way but exceptionally well; think outside the Motherhood box. Ugh. Be everything to everyone and make sure it’s all perfect and be sure to post it all online so everyone can see how amazing life is. Meanwhile, the dishes are stacked, the laundry is overflowing, the baby is teething and you’re getting no sleep.

So, breathe. Prioritize. And accept that some days you’re not going to get it all done. Even better? Accept that you’re not going to get it right.

It’s okay to have bad days just as it’s okay to have a wonderful days. I does balance out. Sure, these years are busy, but they’re just years. 20 years from now, we’ll look back on this time of our lives and remember them as happy, joyful, incredible times. We’ll laugh at our sleepless nights and support our children as they go through it all. Now that...that’s balance.

That’s what I strive for. Good times balancing the hard.

4) Anything else you would like to share about Hot Mama?

I’d love to let people know about our Postpartum Initiative. With this initiative we offer FREE classes to postpartum Mamas for 4 weeks. They can join us when they are between 8-16 weeks postpartum and participate in two classes per week for four weeks. No hooks, no gimmicks, no contracts, just come to class, use exercise as medicine, make new friends and find the support you need during those first few postpartum months.

With one in seven women suffering from postpartum depression (PPD), we wanted to provide a way to help women get out of the house and back to fitness. Fitness can be used as medicine to help combat PPD and that’s exactly what we wanted to offer to our postpartum Mamas. We proudly offer this initiative franchise-wide.

If you’re between 8-16 weeks postpartum, connect with us and we’ll get you to class. Our instructors are pre/postnatal fitness trained and modify exercise and programs for the postpartum body.

Be kind to yourself. Meet new friends. Know that you’re not alone in Motherhood. That is what Hot Mama helps you do.

Oh, and if you don’t have a franchise near you? Think about starting one yourself...OR...think of people in your community who would rock their own business and send them our way:

5) Lastly, what is your favourite thing to do with your kids?

Get physical, obviously! I love when my daughter joins me in my workouts. She now instructs and motivates me and tells me to “push a little more”, “dig a little deeper, Mama” and it makes me so happy. We also love going on hikes together. No electronics, just me and my chatty children. These are the times when I learn the most about their interests, what’s bothering them, if they’re concerned about anything and mostly, what is exciting in life for them.

Oh, we’re also HUGE fans of Friday Night dance parties in our pyjamas!

To celebrate our new connection, we are having a Hot Mama Fit themed box giveaway! More details here.
